Mild (Uncomplicated Peripheral Neuropathy)

Mild

  • No interference with function, symptoms not concerning to patient
  • Any mild cranial nerve problem should be managed as ‘moderate’

Management escalation pathway

  • Low threshold to withhold ICPI and monitor symptoms for another week versus continue
  • ICPI: close monitoring for any progression

Assessment and Investigations

  • Neurologic consult
  • Patient history : diabetes, alcohol, medication
  • EMG
  • Blood analysis : diabetic screen, Vitamine B12/folate, immunoelectrophoresis/ immunofixation, renal function, hematology, autoimmune serology, serology for lyme and HIV
  • Lumbar puncture
  • MR spine/brain to exclude other causes
